Windwhistle is a warm, characterful cottage on Cobb Terrace, set on the hill about a hundred yards above the Cobb in Lyme Regis, at the Dorset end of the Jurassic Coast. It is let as a whole house, and its dog credentials are among the strongest of any cottage in the town: a secure gated garden, a porch for wet coats and muddy paws, a cool tiled utility floor and a dog-friendly beach within walking distance.
The gated garden is the feature owners keep coming back to. It gives a dog somewhere safe and enclosed to stretch out off the lead, which is rare in a terrace this close to the seafront, and the cottage has proved comfortable for assistance dogs as well as pets. Repeat stays are common among guests travelling with dogs.
Inside, the cottage is clean and well equipped, with sea views from the front bedrooms and a conservatory and garden that catch the sun. The allocated parking a few steps from the door earns steady praise, and deservedly so in a town where summer parking is a real problem. The porch and the cool tiled floor make more difference than they sound like they should when you come back from the beach salty and sandy in warm weather.
