Valley Farm Bells

Valley Farm Bells is a small bell-tent site on a working farm at Farmoor, about four miles west of Oxford, where the tents come ready made up with proper beds and bedding, a gas stove and a firepit. It is a comfortable way to sleep under canvas without owning any of the kit, and each tent is pitched well apart from the next with its own patch of ground.

The pet arrangement here is unusual and worth understanding before booking. Dogs are welcome on the site, but they are not allowed inside the bell tents. The farm's own answer is that a dog sleeps in the car overnight, or in a pup tent you bring with you. That rules the site out for anyone whose dog cannot settle alone in a vehicle, and it changes what you pack: bedding, a crate or a small tent become part of the load rather than an optional extra. Owners are also asked to pick up and dispose of all dog waste, which on a working farm with grazing paddocks is more than a formality.

The setting is genuinely rural and genuinely a farm. Donkeys, rabbits and a resident cat wander the grounds, which most guests enjoy, but a dog inclined to chase livestock is a poor fit and will want to be on a lead around the paddocks. Dog owners are a small minority of the people who write about this site, so anything specific - how many dogs, where they can go during the day - is best settled with the owners at the time of booking.

The rest is camping practicalities. Washing facilities are in a shared block a walk from the tents and the showers take coins, so bring change. There is a small shop on site with limited hours, and storage inside the tent is minimal. Nights can be properly cold outside high summer, though the owners are quick with extra blankets, and the site sits near a main road and under a flight path, so there is a background hum most guests stop noticing. It suits a car-camping dog owner happy to work around the sleeping rule; it does not suit a dog who needs to be beside you overnight.
