The New Inn, Great Limber

The New Inn is a village pub with rooms in Great Limber, a small Lincolnshire village between Caistor and Grimsby, and it is one of the more thoroughly dog-friendly inns in this part of the county. The dog-friendly rooms are limited in number but not in quality: guests describe them as well above the standard usually offered, and arrivals are met with treats, blankets and balls put out for the dog rather than a list of restrictions.

The kitchen is the other reason owners return. Dogs are welcome in the bar area while you eat, so an evening meal does not mean leaving them upstairs, and the staff have been known to cook a couple of sausages for the dog while their owners have dinner. Food quality is a consistent theme in guest feedback, with generous portions, a substantial breakfast and a willingness to work around dietary requirements. Drinks can be taken out into the garden or back to the room, which makes a summer evening easy with a dog in tow.

Great Limber is genuinely small, essentially a shop and the inn, but that is much of the appeal, with open countryside straight from the village and Brocklesby Park close by. Humberside Airport is near enough to make this a practical overnight before an early flight, and Keelby and the surrounding villages give somewhere else to walk.

The one thing to weigh is that the bedroom block does host a fair number of dogs and they can be heard on the stairwell, so light sleepers who want a quiet night should ask about room position when booking. Book early, too: only a small number of rooms take dogs and they go subject to availability, and the inn asks you to say when you book that a dog is coming. A charge of £10 per night applies.
