The Cottage at Beeston Hall is a stone-built cottage on a working farm in the Pennine hills above Ripponden, and it is the kind of place people book when they want the dog, the wood burner and the view and not much else. Walks start at the door, the moors are a short drive, and Hebden Bridge, Heptonstall and Haworth are all within easy reach for the days you want a pub lunch.
Inside it suits dogs well: stone floors downstairs, underfloor heating, roomy living space and a hot tub in the garden with the valley in front of it. A welcome hamper with fresh bread, butter, milk and a bottle is the usual arrival, and the owners are around, helpful with walk suggestions and quick to fix things. Guests have specifically booked it to sit out fireworks season with a nervous dog and reported hearing nothing at all.
The one thing to plan for is the garden wall. It is only about two feet high, with a field behind it that often has sheep in, and dogs have cleared it. Several parties have ended up keeping their dogs on leads or a long line in the garden for the whole stay, which takes some of the point out of having an enclosed space - bring a long line and do not assume the garden is secure. The hot tub and garden are also reached by going out of the house and through a side gate rather than straight from indoors, so letting the dog out is a more deliberate business than it looks.
