The Cosy Cabin, Bristol

The Cosy Cabin is a compact, well-kept self-catering cabin on the semi-rural edge of Bristol, out at Wraxall in North Somerset, with its own parking and a host who is around when you need them and out of the way when you do not. For a short break where the walking matters more than the nightlife, it does the job.

The pet terms are straightforward: one small or medium sized dog, at no extra charge. The size limit is the thing to check first. This is a cabin rather than a house, and a large breed is not what it is set up for.

The surroundings work well. There is accessible woodland close by, and the location balances a countryside feel against quick access to Bristol, the motorway and everyday shops. Dog owners describe a clean, thoughtfully finished space that is comfortable to come back to after a walk.

Two caveats come up repeatedly from guests travelling with dogs, and both deserve weight. The outdoor space is not enclosed, so a dog cannot be let out unsupervised, and more than one party has arrived expecting a secure garden and found otherwise. The cabin also sits close to a busy main road on a blind bend with limited pavement, which makes stepping straight out for a walk less relaxed than at a genuinely remote let and means the first few minutes of every walk need a lead and some care.

None of that stops dog owners rating their stays highly. It suits couples or small families with a calm, lead-trained small or medium dog who want a clean, comfortable base with woodland walks nearby, and who do not mind a short drive to somewhere safer for off-lead running.
