The Cabin is a spacious bungalow on Combe Martin high street in North Devon, and it is one of those rare dog-friendly lets where you genuinely do not need the car. Two pubs that welcome dogs are a couple of minutes' walk away, there is a chip shop opposite and a shop up the road, a pet shop sits a few hundred yards along, and the beach is a fifteen-minute walk down through the village. A bus stop directly outside gives you a regular service along the coast.
Up to three pets can stay, and the property is set up for it. The enclosed back garden is small but properly secure, with six-foot panel fences, grass and both sunny and shaded seating. Guests arriving with dogs are met with dog towels, bowls, poo bags and treats alongside the usual welcome pack, and the interior is roomy enough that parties have had space for dog crates in the hallway. Larger groups travelling with several dogs report it working comfortably, with three dogs alongside a full house managed more than once.
It is a good all-round base as well as a dog-friendly one: level, wide inside and accessible to a manual wheelchair, with off-street parking, high ceilings and a well-equipped kitchen. Behind the property a churchyard path follows a stream to a play area, and Woolacombe, Ilfracombe and dog-friendly Saunton Sands are all short drives.
The one design quirk to know about is that the back door to the garden opens off the main bedroom. Dog owners raise this regularly: it makes late-night garden trips awkward, and it means anyone sitting outside in the evening walks through someone's bedroom. The garden is genuinely small, the kitchen is compact, and Combe Martin itself has lost a number of its shops and pubs in recent years, so the village is quieter and shabbier than the nearby resorts. The local beach is pebble rather than sand.
