The Boundary Annex is a converted annex on a working farm in the Shropshire Hills, a short drive from Bishop's Castle, and it has become a favourite with dog owners for a simple reason: you get the whole place to yourselves, with fenced outdoor space and walking straight from the door. Guests travelling with dogs talk about long lane walks past sheep and lambs, days out on the Stiperstones and the Long Mynd, and evenings in the hot tub with nothing but countryside around them.
Up to two pets can stay. The owners think about dogs rather than merely tolerating them: dog bowls and spare dog brushes are among the things left out for guests, and a vacuum cleaner is provided so you can leave the place as you found it. The decking and the separate barbecue terrace are enclosed, and owners of dogs that test boundaries repeatedly report being able to relax outside without watching them.
Inside it is warmer and more comfortable than the exterior suggests, with underfloor heating, a log burner, a large wet room and a super-king bed. The hot tub is checked daily. The enclosed areas are the decking and terrace rather than the whole plot, and there has been feedback that dogs can reach the lane from the open ground, so it is worth walking the boundary yourself on arrival if you have an escaper. The access roads are single-track and narrow, and the bedroom has no blackout blinds, so light sleepers travelling in midsummer should pack an eye mask. Winter walking here is muddy, so bring towels and paw-cleaning kit.
