Sound of the Sea is a self-catering apartment in Compass Apartments on Capstone Crescent, a terrace on the seafront side of Ilfracombe with the harbour a minute's walk away and Capstone Hill rising directly behind it. The draw, in almost every piece of feedback about the place, is the view: a bay window over the Bristol Channel that people sit at for hours.

The dog-friendly signal here is thin in volume but strong in kind. The single confirmed pet stay came from a couple on a repeat visit, and a rebooking is the most useful evidence a small pool can offer - nobody books a second time if travelling with the dog was awkward the first. That stay was cut short because the dog fell ill, which reads as bad luck rather than anything to do with the apartment; the overall verdict stayed positive.

For a dog, the location does most of the work. The harbour, the town's shops and the start of the South West Coast Path are all walkable, and Capstone Hill gives a short, steep circuit with sea on three sides for the last outing of the day. Hillsborough Nature Reserve on the eastern side of town covers longer ground without needing the car.

Two practical notes for anyone arriving with a dog and luggage. The apartment is up two flights of stairs, a detail that comes up in the feedback about hauling bags in, and worth thinking about with an older or larger dog. Parking is not on site, and it is both scarce and expensive in central Ilfracombe, so decide where the car goes before you arrive rather than circling with a dog in the back.
