Snowdon Cottage, Llanberis

Snowdon Cottage is a quaint whole-house rental tucked into the mountains at Llanberis, right on the doorstep of the Llanberis Path up Snowdon and a short walk from the village. Having the cottage to yourselves, in a quiet setting with mountain views, makes it a tempting base for a walking trip with a dog - and it's openly advertised as dog-friendly.

Guests travelling with dogs are consistently positive about the location: it's minutes from the Llanberis Path, the Ceunant Mawr waterfall and the village shops and restaurants, so you can walk straight out with the dog. One family travelling with their dog loved the remote, homely feel and said they would happily return.

That said, two things come up often enough from dog-owning guests to flag before you book. First, there's no enclosed garden or secure gate on the property, so you can't simply let a dog out off-lead - more than one guest wished for a gated area. Second, dogs are reportedly kept to the ground floor and not allowed upstairs, which some found tricky as the cottage can get cold downstairs overnight; a couple of guests also noted they weren't told this until after booking. The kitchen is stocked but modest, and heating and hot water drew the odd grumble.

It's best suited to walkers with a dog who are happy keeping to the lead around the property, want an unbeatable Snowdon-path location, and check the ground-floor-only rule directly with the host before booking.
