Robinsons Cottage is a small self-catering cottage in the middle of Cockermouth, reached through a doorway between two shop fronts, and it suits dog owners who want a town base rather than a remote one. Everything is a few minutes' walk away, including the pubs and the river path, and the western fells start a short drive from the door. It earns a 4.6/5 paw rating.
The cottage is cosy and quaint rather than large, and guests consistently rate the value. It comes stocked with the extras that get forgotten elsewhere, from spare bin bags and tea towels to toiletries and tea, the beds are comfortable with fresh bedding, and it stays quiet inside despite the central position. The owner is responsive, and there is a private courtyard for sitting outside with the dog.
That courtyard is also the one thing dog owners raise repeatedly. It is a genuine outdoor space and some guests found it worked well for their dogs, but it is not enclosed: there are no gates on the existing gate posts, so a dog that wanders cannot be left out unsupervised.
