Rhianwen is one of the converted barns on the Plas Moelfre Hall estate, tucked into open countryside near Llansilin on the Welsh side of the Shropshire border. It is a whole-property let with a hot tub, a games room and long views over the hills, built around the outdoors in a way that suits four-legged guests as much as their owners.

The property takes up to three pets, which makes it a rare find for households travelling with more than one dog. Owners regularly mention the practical touches laid on for pets: blankets, bowls, treats, a spare lead and a few toys are put out alongside the milk, eggs and Welsh cakes left for arrivals, so there is less to pack and dogs settle quickly. The hosts come in for warm praise throughout, described as friendly and attentive without being intrusive.

The setting is the real draw for anyone with an energetic dog. Walks start at the door, with Gryn Moelfre rising behind the barn and a network of trails, waterfalls and quiet lanes beyond it. There is room on the driveway and in the garden for dogs to potter, and after a long walk the hot tub and games room make for an easy evening.

One caveat comes up often enough to flag. Reports on the garden fencing are genuinely split: several parties found it secure and had no trouble at all, while others with smaller dogs or determined diggers found their dog slipping out underneath and into the neighbouring field. With sheep next door and a quiet lane alongside, a dog that likes to roam needs watching. The location is remote too, so arrive with supplies for the week.

Rhianwen suits dog owners after a peaceful rural retreat with excellent walking on the doorstep and a barn that feels like a proper home from home, and it is a particularly good fit for groups bringing two or three dogs between them.
