Ocean View Apartments sits above the beach at Millendreath, a small cove a mile or so east of Looe, and the appeal for dog owners is simple: the sand is at the bottom of the slope rather than a drive away. Guests travelling with dogs describe walking straight out for a beach session and back again, which is the whole reason to choose a cove over a town.
The studios come with a private outdoor area and a sun room looking over the bay, which dog-owning guests single out as the best part of the stay, somewhere to sit with the door open and listen to the water without taking the dog anywhere public. The rooms stay cool in warm weather, which matters for a dog resting while you eat, and the kitchens are well equipped, with cleaning products and tea and coffee included.
Millendreath is quiet to the point of being sparse. There is a small cafe and a beach bar, both well liked, and that is essentially the lot. The walk into Looe takes around 25 minutes and is a genuine climb in both directions, steep and slippery in the wet; guests who came specifically to walk with their dogs have found it harder than expected, and the coast path has caused at least one fall. If you want to be in Looe for the evening, plan to drive.
Access is the other caveat. There is a step up into the property and the shower is not wheelchair accessible, so despite the accessibility wording on the booking listing this is not a suitable base for a dog owner with significant mobility needs. For a fit couple or a solo traveller with a dog who want a quiet cove, a private sun trap and a beach at the bottom of the path, Ocean View earns a 4.6/5 paw rating.
