Manor Park 6-Berth Lodge, Hunstanton

Manor Park is a holiday village on the southern edge of Hunstanton, and this two-bedroom, six-berth lodge sits in one of its quieter corners, away from the main run of the site. It is a roomy base for the money: two bathrooms with good showers, a proper kitchen with dishwasher and washing machine, comfortable beds, and enough space for a group of five and a dog without anyone climbing over anyone else.

Dogs are welcome and the practical side is well covered. There are green corners near the lodge for a quick walk last thing, the host answers messages quickly and sorts problems out when they come up, and the pitch is quiet enough that a dog is not reacting to passing traffic all evening. The property publishes no pet fee, pet limit or weight limit, so agree the numbers with the host when you book.

One caveat matters more than the rest, and it comes from more than one dog-owning guest: the decking is not securely fenced. There are gaps in the railings wide enough for a small dog to squeeze through, and at least one terrier came close to getting out that way. If your dog is small, slim or an escape artist, treat the decking as open ground and keep them on a lead out there rather than assuming it will hold them.

The other thing worth planning for is the walk into town. The lodge sits a fair way from the park entrance, and the beach is closer to a mile off than the few hundred yards the property's booking listing implies - roughly twenty minutes on foot, with no direct footpath, so the route runs out of the entrance and down through the streets. Hunstanton itself is also less relaxed about dogs than the north Norfolk coast further east; Wells-next-the-Sea and Sheringham are the better days out with a dog and both are an easy drive.

At 4.5/5 for paws, this lodge suits a larger party with a steady, medium-sized dog who wants space, two bathrooms and a base for the north Norfolk coast, more than it suits anyone bringing a small dog who needs safe outdoor space at the door.
