Coppice Farm House is a self-contained flat on Chatsworth Grove, a quiet residential street about fifteen minutes' walk from the centre of Harrogate, and it makes a comfortable, well-finished base for a trip with a dog - with one significant caveat worth reading before you book.

The flat itself draws consistent praise. Guests describe it as immaculate, warm and tastefully decorated, with a good kitchen, an en-suite in one bedroom and a separate bath, robes laid out and a view from the kitchen window. There is a parking space at the property, which counts for a lot in central Harrogate, and small welcome touches come up repeatedly: milk, biscuits and dog snacks left ready for arrival.

For walking, there is a grass and wooded area a short stroll down the road that guests with dogs rate highly, several nearby coffee shops welcome dogs, and there is a small supermarket within reach. A bus stop at the top of the road runs three buses an hour into town, so the fifteen-minute walk is optional.

The caveat is the house rules. The flat is advertised as pet-friendly, but dogs are not allowed on the furniture or the beds, and that rule has been enforced during a stay rather than left as small print, which came as an unwelcome surprise to guests who expected a dog-friendly let to be more relaxed about it. The garden is not suitable for leaving a dog unattended either, so early and late walks become the routine, and nothing in the flat tells you where the nearest park is. The staircase up to the flat is steep, which is worth thinking about with an older or less mobile dog.

At 4.0/5 this is a conditional recommendation rather than an easy one. Coppice Farm House suits a steady dog who settles on their own bed rather than the sofa, and owners who plan to be out walking rather than leaving the dog behind in the flat.
