It sits a few minutes' walk from the Rows, the market and the riverside, yet the street itself stays quiet, and it comes with free parking directly outside that you never need to move. On a city break with a dog, not having to shuffle the car is worth more than it sounds.
Dogs are welcome and the house is arranged so they can be. An enclosed back garden opens straight off the ground floor, which owners of small dogs in particular pick out - the door can be opened without a lead or a shared corridor to negotiate. The bedrooms and living room are unusually large for a central townhouse, the kitchen is properly equipped down to the dishwasher tablets, and the hosts answer messages quickly and are generous with suggestions for where to go.
Location does most of the work for exercise. The riverside and the Groves are within walking distance, the city walls make a good circuit, and the adjoining streets hold plenty of pubs and restaurants that take dogs.
Two things are worth checking on arrival.
