1 Norvic House, Mablethorpe

1 Norvic House is a ground-floor annexe in Sutton on Sea, at the quieter end of the Mablethorpe stretch of the Lincolnshire coast, and it has clearly been set up by people who understand travelling with a dog. Guests arriving with one regularly find a bowl already in the kitchen and biscuits in the welcome basket, alongside the tea, coffee, milk and toiletries that come as standard.

The ground-floor layout is worth flagging, because it solves a problem a lot of dog owners run into. There are no internal stairs to manage, which makes a real difference with an older dog, a large one, or a puppy still nervous on steps. Outside, a small lawned area is fenced off from the rest of the property, so there is somewhere secure to let the dog out off the lead.

Dog owners report that no additional charge is applied for bringing a dog, which is unusual enough on this coast to be worth confirming directly when you book. The hosts have a reputation for judging the balance well: available by phone if something is needed, but otherwise leaving guests entirely alone.

The location does most of the work. The beach is a five to ten minute stroll along the high street, with a supermarket and a run of cafes and shops on the way, so the morning walk can double as the trip out for milk. Parking comes with the annexe rather than being a hunt along the street.

The main caveat is accessibility rather than anything pet-related. There is a step up into the annexe and the shower has a sliding door, both of which have caused difficulty for guests with limited mobility, which is relevant if you are managing a dog and a walking aid at the same time. The outdoor space is also genuinely small, so this is a base for beach walks rather than a garden your dog will spend the day in.
